Boot to Gecko

Mozilla Firefox used to be the number one alternative when it stood up against Internet Explorer and its internet browser emporium. Sadly, those days of glory aren't over but they have been overtake mostly because of Google Chrome which have become quite a popular choice for browsing the web.

However, this post is not about that, but it's about Boot to Gecko (B2G)which is an upcoming operating system for mobile platforms a.k.a cellphones, which promises to be the alternative on the open source for Android.

Firefox had its moment of glory, and with this new inclusion it just got together with Ubuntu which a couple of months ago promoted a dock phone which would be compatible with the operating system taking the experience of using Ubuntu everywhere

B2G will be released by Telefonica a Spanish communication company which have presence pretty much everywhere where Spanish is spoken, so on that matter I think it's a great beginning, but I think the English speaking market has more promise of consuming the product that the Spanish one, however,  the mystery behind who is going to be the hardware company and when exactly this is coming out will have everybody who is fan of the Mozilla foundation waiting for this new device.

I think the fact that it's going to make the phone a web experience is an interesting factor, but OS like Chrome kind of failed doing such a thing, because the constant requirement of being connected to the internet for using a device can become prohibitive, especially considering the prices of data plans.

We can always have the hope that telephone companies will stop taking advantage of the customers and low down the prices, but until that happens Mozilla might not have a very bright future on the mobile market, however, I love Firefox and I will always be willing to try out their system I hope it succeed, but Android will prevail :)

Thanks for reading my Sunday short post, but I'm sleepy :)

Have a great week.
